HILO, Hawaii — The Pendleton volleyball team spent a week honing its skills Sept. 3-5 at the Hawaii Island Labor Day Classic, ending the 36-team tournament in the silver bracket.
After going 1-2 on the first day of pool play, the Bucks rebounded with a 25-25, 25-14 win over Konawaena, and a 25-22, 21-25, 15-12
win over Waiakea, a match Pendleton coach Jodi Primus called their best match of the tournament.
Pendleton lost its final pool play match to Kamehameha White, 25-24, 25-18, placing the Bucks in the silver bracket.
In bracket play, the Bucks dropped a 23-25, 25-16, 15-10 match to Sage Creek of San Diego, and a 25-24, 23-25, 15-8 match to Hilo.
“It was great competition for us,” Primus said. “We definitely improved and gained confidence against really good teams in tight matches. We played eight matches in three days. We are exhausted.” While in Hawaii, the Bucks enjoyed a day at the beach, took a hike to a waterfall, watched a beach volleyball match and enjoyed a luau.
