PILOT ROCK — Pilot Rock got off to a slow start and couldn’t recover in dropping a 25-13, 25-13, 25-12 nonleague match Tuesday, Sept. 3, to Ione/Arlington (2-1).

“We just had a hard time getting into a groove tonight,” Pilot Rock coach Jen Porter said. “We had some great plays, but weren’t able to keep the momentum for the whole match.”

Kessa Litfin had seven digs and three assists for the Rocket (0-5), while Coley Gibbs had nine digs, Lillie Holman two aces, and Jada Deist two kills.

The Rockets are back in action Thursday at Heppner.

HOOD RIVER VALLEY 8, PENDLETON 0 — The Bucks had a tough match on the road, dropping a nonleague game to the 5A Eagles.

Sophomore Thiri Dahl finished with 11 saves for Pendleton (1-2), which will play Thursday at Riverside.

LEWISTON (ID) 2, PENDLETON 1 — Anson Dressler scored the lone goal for the Bucks in a nonleague road loss to the Bengals.

“The game could easily have gone the other way,” Pendleton coach Evan Brandhagen said. “They got a penalty kick immediately after we scored our first goal, so we never really got any momentum. I’m very optimistic about our season after seeing the last couple of games. I don’t think a single one of our scores has reflected how well we are playing.”

Freshman keeper Jared Pace finished with eight saves for the Bucks (0-3), who will host Riverside on Friday.
