PENDLETON — Tugg McQuinn ran for 211 yards and four touchdowns to help Pendleton to a 35-34 nonleague victory Friday, Sept. 13, over 5A Redmond.

“He’s a pretty special kid,” Pendleton coach Erik Davis said of McQuinn. “A tired kid now.”

McQuinn also had three catches for six yards and a touchdown, and returned a punt 70 yards for a touchdown.

The teams were tied 7-7 early in the game, but the Panthers scored back-to-back touchdowns for a 21-7 lead. The Bucks pulled within 21-14, then evened things out at 21-21.

Redmond added two more scores for a 34-21 lead just before the half, but the Bucks, with just a few seconds left on the clock, pulled within 34-28.

Neither team scored in the third, but the Bucks used a 4-yard touchdown pass from Colson Primus to Mason Strong late in the fourth to rally for the win.

“We held them to nothing in the second half,” Davis said. “Defensively, we played a much better game in the second half. Coach (Fred) Phillips had a pretty good game plan together. Big props to the defense in the second half.”

Primus completed 14 of 29 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns.

“Offensively, we did a good job moving the ball,” Davis said. “We made a lot of mistakes. We had penalties that stalled some drives. It was ugly, but I will take it 10 out of 10 times. We needed this win. I will take it and we will build off that.”

Defensively, Miles Kennedy had 11 tackles and a quarterback sack, while Vance Nelson had five tackles.

OAKLAND 36, WESTON-MCEWEN 0 — The Oakers shut down the TigerScots’ offense, then ran wild on their defense for a nonleague win in Athena.

Easton Berry was 9 of 15 for 67 yards passing for W-M, connecting six times with Jace Dunlap for 49 yards. Maddox King caught three passes for 19 yards.

Dunlap also ran for 33 yards on four carries, while King had eight carries for 21 yards.

The TigerScots (0-2) are back in action Sept. 21, hosting Gold Beach.

GRANT UNION 32, PILOT ROCK 6 — The Prospectors scored three touchdowns in the first quarter en route to a nonleague road win Thursday over the Rockets.

“We had four turnovers in the first half that put us in a tough position,” Pilot Rock coach Shane Munkers said. “Our defense played much better in the second half.”

Carter VanHouten scored on a 55-yard run for the Rockets (0-3), who are idle until Sept. 27, when they play Union at Eastern Oregon University.
