Schimmel posts a season best

CHAMPS INVITE — In a meet exclusive to small schools (1A-3A), Nixyáawii’s Sun Schimmel left an impression at Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon. 

The Nixyáawii sophomore crossed the finish line in a season best 19:09.80, placing 70th in a field of 231 runners. 

The Golden Eagles placed 19th in the team scoring with 476 points. Banks won the team title with 65 points.

Santiam Christian’s Diego Zambrano won the race with a time of 16:08.10.

Also scoring for Nixyáawii were Sacas Wildbill (76th, 19:18.10), Wyatt Withers (117th, 20:23.70), Noah Piercen (123rd, 20:37.10) and Weptas Brockie (157th, 21:43.60).

In the girls’ division, Nixyáawii’s Ciicyle Thompson was the first Golden Eagle across the finish line, coming in 137th with a time of 23:23.20. She was followed by Rosaella Salt (141st, 28:27.50), Emma Star-New (154th, 30:52.30), Gracie Wilson (163rd, 34:49.90) and Ayanna Star (165th, 36:04.90).

Nixyáawii finished 15th in the team race with 545 points. Siuslaw won the team title with 104 points. Daisy Lalonde of East Linn Christian won the race with a time of 18:28.70.
